Liturgical Use: Christmas
Text: Thomas Fischer
Tune: The Birthday Of A King
Suggested Usage: Before/During Communion
THE
WORDS OF INSTITUTION:
(Tune “Birthday of a King”)
Pastor:
(Chanted) On the night that Jesus, our Lord, was giv’n-
Betrayed by Judas’ hand.
And He took the bread, then He blessed it, said,
“Take and eat, My body for you.“
And
whenever, you eat this Holy bread
Take and eat it, remember Me.
For as often as you partake of it
You proclaim My love for you.
(The
Bread Is Consecrated)
In
the same way, also, He took the cup,
He prayed, and to them said,
“Take and drink of it, this is My true blood
Which is giv’n up for you.
Take and drink it,
it’s My New Covenant
Which is given now for you!
And each time you drink, you receive My blood.
To forgive you and renew.”
(The
Wine Is Consecrated)
THE SONG OF REJOICING: “Birthday
Of A King” (May be sung responsively [as below] or by all)
Pastor:
(Sung) In the little village of Bethlehem,
there lay a Child one day,
And the sky was bright with a holy light
O’er the place where Jesus lay.
All:
(Sung) Alleluia!
O how the angels sang.
Alleluia! How it rang!
And the sky was bright, with a holy light,
“Twas the birthday of a King.
Pastor:
(Sung) ‘Twas a humble birthplace,
but O how much God gave to us that day;
From the manger bed what a path has led,
What a perfect, holy Way.
All:
(Sung) Alleluia!
The King of Kings is born.
Alleluia! He is here!
Lies in swaddling clothes, in the manger hay,
He’s our Savior, oh so near.
Pastor:
(Sung) Infant Jesus, You are the Lamb of God,
Who takes our sins away.
Give us mercy, Lord, and give us Your Word
And forgive us, Lord, we pray.
All:
(Sung) Give
us mercy, and come O Lamb of God.
Give us mercy! Give us joy!
Make our hearts be bright, with Your holy Light.
As we greet Your Baby Boy.
